Pick Order & Lobby Swap Guide

Does the later pick in a lane win more? Measured on professional drafts, where the pick order is recorded, and on solo-queue matchups, which show how much a counterpick can take from you.

🔍How this is measured

Pro play: Oracle's Elixir records each team's picks in order, so in every game each lane's two champions get their lock slot, and the side that locked its laner later counterpicked that lane. Its win rate is side-balanced (blue and red averaged, since blue wins about 53% of pro maps) with a 95% interval, and its laner's gold lead at 15 rides beside it. This is an observed association, not a causal effect. Solo queue records no pick order, so being counterpicked cannot be measured there; what can is how far a lane's matchups swing, from our counters table pooled over Silver to Emerald and three regions, shown only where the reading agrees with itself across two patches.

Picking a lane later, in pro play

In 29,231 professional games since 2024, how often the side that locked its laner after the other side's laner won, and its laner's gold at 15.

No lane shows a counterpick edge in pro play: the later pick in a lane wins about as often as the earlier one (every lane within 0.4 points of even, inside its interval).

How far a lane's matchups swing, in solo queue

What a blind pick gives up into the lane's eight most-met opponents (median over the lane's champions), and its typical worst matchup, in points of win rate. This is what a counterpick can take from you; solo queue does not record who picked first.

Lobby swap: which lane should pick later?
